Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi is a Ugandan novelist and short story writer living in Manchester.
Her debut Kintu — the parallel stories of a cursed bloodline and the rise of modern Uganda, told through oral storytelling, folk tale, myth and scripture — won the Kwani? Manuscript Project Award in 2013 after being turned down elsewhere as too African. Her story Let's Tell This Story Properly won the Commonwealth Short Story Prize in 2014, and in 2018 she was awarded a Windham-Campbell Prize for fiction. She teaches creative writing at Lancaster University.
