A history teacher who left for the Netherlands in 1990 and wrote the novel of Uganda under Amin and after — a hundred thousand copies in Dutch before English readers had heard of it.
Moses Isegawa, also known as Sey Wava, was born on 10 August 1963 and taught history in Uganda before leaving for the Netherlands in 1990.
His debut novel Abyssinian Chronicles, published in Amsterdam in 1998, sold more than a hundred thousand copies and was widely praised on its English publication in 2001. Set in Uganda through the 1970s and 1980s, it follows Mugezi Muwaabi through the political violence of those years. Isegawa took Dutch citizenship and returned to live in Uganda in 2006.
