Uganda's first wildlife veterinary officer, who worked out that saving mountain gorillas meant treating the people living beside them — and built an organisation around it.
Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka is a Ugandan veterinarian and founder of Conservation Through Public Health, an organisation working on the coexistence of people, endangered mountain gorillas and other wildlife.
She was Uganda's first wildlife veterinary officer and was the subject of the BBC documentary Gladys the African Vet.
